Things I think Update

Yay. A new video.

Sims screwed up my computer so I might as well play it

For those of you not following my twitter I made a Sims house with 8 of the B-Podders, Dan, Hiro, Sidney, Naoya, Lauren, Me, Yusuke, and Elisabeth. They don’t let you do more than 8, or I probably woulda killed myself making everyone. Anyway, much of my time these days is spent with at least part of my attention focused on this silly game. If you would like to know details I suggest you ask, as I intend to try and not bore everyone with the details, although I might fail.

IRL I called PNNL and asked them what was up. They told me they were waiting on Central. So I called Central and asked them what was up and they told me that degrees aren’t processed until July 2nd, so they can’t tell PNNL I graduated until after that. So my vacation gets another extension. I will likely go to Cheney with Pat again this week, since I now know I can, as it will be more convenient for attending Sindey’s 4th of July celebrations. Plus I can hang out with Pat more before we are both relegated to work drone-itude.

Lastly, in the course of addressing my computer woes I have found in convenient to use mother’s computer from time to time.  As such I have also used IE, a thing I’ve not done often in years.  Using IE has exposed me to adds like the one below.  Now, I dunno what this is an ad for, although I’m sure it’ s utter crap, but apparently one need follow only “these one simple rule”.  /rolls eyes   I tend to scorn sheeple, but people are such gibbering morons that if they didn’t have that instinctual herd mentality we never would have made it this far.

Today I learned that Lauren like big, old things

I’ve not had a big update post in a while, but that’s because I’ve been busy having things to do.  Let me explain.

Mom came to visit.  Well, not really.  She came to see Tyler and Danny, and band, play.  She brought my PS3 and bought me PoP and LBP, so I’ve had new games to play in my free time.  PS3 is getting quite a bit of love.  LBP is a good game for my crowd here.  Lauren and I have beaten the main story.  The gang sorta paired off since I only have two controllers.  Anyway, we’re working on getting all the items still, which will take a while.  We explored some player made content today, which was pretty neat.

Ok, besides that, I also had a big 481 paper and presentation on Friday we were working on all week.  Well, really just Wednesday and Thursday.  We were busy working on the actual project for 481 on the other days.

Immediately after my presentation I went to Elisabeth’s with her and 7 other people.  Like, immediately.  I was still wearing that ridiculous get up they make us wear for presentations.  So, we did a lot of hanging out and whatnot at Elisabeth’s.  The guys, Hiro, Yusuke, myself, and Dan, played basketball.

On Valentine’s day each gender made food for the other.  We male’s got fish, since there’s a female veggie, and a couple other fish haters, and they chose stuffed peppers for us to make them.  In the end the division of labor was a little fuzzy, and there was quite a bit of sharing, but it was a very fancy occassion.  We had candles, and the sparkling cider, and fancy plates, and suits and ties and dresses and all that good stuff.  After that we went hot tubbing.  After that we males did pushups.  Then we watched Star Wars Episode IV.  Kinda, there were two people who watched it, and everyone else kinda watched or slept or goofed off.

There was also some incidental shopping and driving around during the Elisabeth visit.  And we all went and saw some children’s musical for some reason.  Elisabeth’s mom got us in for free.  Put on by homeschoolers, in like a church.  Yeah.  Whatever.

So, that’s pretty much the gist of what’s happened.  Had today off cause it’s a national holiday and all that.  School soon, though.  Rest of the time for me here at Central is going to be quite busy, I think, so if I dissapear from the blogosphere for a month or so, pity is the appropriate response.

I r on duty

I haven’t updated in a while for a couple reasons.  Probably the most important is that I’ve been busy.  We had a giant paper due for that capstone class I have, and I also had some programming assignments due in my other classes.  I was very productive during the beginning of this week so I’m a bit ahead now, although I still have much on the horizon.  The other reason is that my internet is so atrociously slow back in the dorm that I can’t seem to load all the WordPress stuff I need to make a new post.  Sad, ain’t it.

So what’s been happening?  I wrote a genetic algorithm.  It’s really simple, just supposed to optimize a two variable algebraic inequality, but it’s still cool, imho.  I had a bug that flummoxed me for several hours until I got Keston to look at it.  He fixed it in like 5 minutes.  So, kudos to him.  I tried to make it general, and some of that kinda went by the wayside when I hit the bugs and the deadline, but I’m hoping it’s close and can be easily adapted for alternative projects.

Lauren, keeper of the Netflix queue, has realized that I’m leaving soon, never to complain about their movie selections again, so she’s bumped up all the movies I’ve been suggesting over the year.  So we watched Equilibrium, The Professional, and soon Airplane.  Elisabeth and Sidney opted out of The Professional, which was stupid of them.  I’m very disappointed.  I was a little nervous I wouldn’t like it as much as I remembered, but I still stand by my 10 star rating on IMDB.

Funny coincidence, The Totally Rad Show that was released two days after we watched it had The Professional as their recommended Netflix rental, and Dan said he thought it was a flawless movie.  I don’t really agree with Dan’s movie taste in a lot of ways, but we’re together on that one.  Anyway, the point is, Sidney and Elisabeth are dumb for missing it, and I don’t forgive them.  And anyone who doesn’t like that movie… well, I’ve never heard of such a thing, so please explain yourself.

Pat didn’t come visit me, cause he a sucka foo, or something.  I didn’t get him anything for his bday, though, so we’ll call it even.

Helen Marie Havnaer is my friend on facebook now.  You guys remember her?  From camp that one year when I was like 12?  /shurg  Well, I do.

Tomorrow Tyler‘s band is going to play on campus.  Mom’s coming to see him, and I’ll go.  Hopefully I can get others to go.

There’s more, but I guess they’re the subject of different posts.

Things I enjoy Update

Thanks Asians
Thanks Asians

I got a card from my parents, con dinero, which was nice, and a bunch of the Asians got together and made me this card. I think the art was done by Aki. It’s pretty awesome, as you can see, so it was nice.

Sidney and Dan and maybe some others made curry for dinner for me. Added some spice and pineapple.  It was very good.  I like curry.  Sidney also bought me some milk and Kix, which I mentioned a week or so ago I was considering desirable, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Come to think of it, Sidney like mint chocolate chip too, so maybe it wasn’t really for me. Regardless, the ice cream went nicely with the cake Lauren made for me, and half successfully frosted with help from her visiting friend, Katie.  The cake was good, but not as good as the cake I’m gonna make her on Monday. Hiro got me a couple erasers because he found out I’ve been lacking, and Yusuke got me a couple nice mechanical pencils cause the one I’ve been using all quarter is… ragged.

Elisabeth and Martha both claim to have gifts for me coming soon.

So, for all of you who wished me a happy birthday, your wish came true.  And for all those who didn’t, a pox on your children! (because I obviously believe in punishment for the sins of the father)

Oh yeah, and Sidney also wore her glasses all day cause I dislike contacts, and maybe tried to dress a little more slovenly than usual. Kinda hard to tell. A female altering her appearance in any way at my behest, if only for my birthday, is none the less kinda touching.

I’ve been thinking way too long trying to come up with a title

I registered for Winter quarter classes on Friday.  I got to register way before everyone else, cause I’m awesome.  I’m signed up for five 400 level computer science courses.  I’ve decided against taking the second quarter of Modern Physics so I can take Computational Intelligence.  I’m also taking Operating Systems, Software Engineering part II, which is where we actually build the crazy thing I’ve been getting all the paperwork together for this quarter, a little senior colloquium thing about ethics, prolly lots of presentations and papers, and I’m a TA for a class yet to be determined.  Grading papers and everything.  If I get lucky and the class I TA for is in the afternoon, then I have no classes before noon.  Such a thing would be a nice boon.

Parents stopped by on the way to Seattle.  Bought me food and such.  Maybe tomorrow I’ll make lentil stew.  Yusuke bought swim trunks at Goodwill so he could go swimming with the group tonight.

Dan, Hiro, Yusuke, Luke, Lauren, Sidney, Elisabeth, and I all went swimming.  Well, Elisabeth went to the pool, not into the pool.  She read or something.  I threw a water polo ball, I guess that’s what it was, at Yusuke‘s head, and gave him a bloody nose.  Was a stupid thing for me to do.  He’s ok, but it was still very stupid.  I don’t normally do stupid things.  /sigh  The full story is something like, Yusuke and Hiro were having a splash war, Lauren got caught in the cross fire, she splashed at Yusuke, Yusuke splashed back, Lauren says, “Throw this at his head,” I throw the ball at the back of Yusuke‘s head, he turns at the wrong time, he throws the ball back, then we notice he has a small blood loss problem.

With all the swimming, and showering associated with swimming, I’m more motivated to get rid of my hair.  I want to have my beard without my hair for a while, though, so hopefully Sidney will find time and courage to cut my hair for me soon.

I get my Tuesday class cancelled this week.  Woo hoo.  I guess at least I’ll get to sleep in.

OMG caveman

I made lentil stew this weekend.  One of those days, Saturday I think.  I even had a little veggie side portion for SidneyLauren did the grocery run for me cause there was a preponderance of people wanting to go, but she didn’t believe me when I wrote tomato juice on the list so she got tomato sauce.  We just diluted it 1/3 and it worked fine.  Might actually be cheaper that way.  Got leftover ingredients.  All I need is onions and beef and I could make some more.  I thought it was good.  It never gets the acclaim my milkshakes do, though.

Got to a 7:20 mile today.  So that’s faster than last time, and is extra impressive since my legs were sore when I started because I’ve been doing fairly extensive DDRing over the weekend.  Lauren has been showing increased interest in DDR lately, so I have a partner.

I also got the highest score on the physics test.  33.5 out of 34.  Low was 9.5, but, I think, that must be quite the outlier.

That’s about the end of the good news school wise, though.  Well, I haven’t done poorly on anything yet, it’s just the work that’s upcoming that is lame.  Resume thing due tomorrow, which I already did, but it wasn’t very fun.  Plus, it’s one of those stupid assignments with no real point and it is therefore difficult to know what is expected.  Then I might have a test on Wednesday.  Can’t tell because the professor doesn’t know, or didn’t during class, and his online schedule has no dates.  Useful.  It’s sometime this week though for sure.  I also have another one of those stupid research papers.  They’ve gotten stupider because he explained how he wants us to use super official references.  References are fine if it’s a real research paper, but there’s no primary literature on the history of RAM, so referencing bad sources is just going to get harder.  Whatever.  I also have a basic weekly homework assignment in that class, but I did that already.  That was fine.  Then in my other class with that prof I have a test on Friday, and normal homework, also finished already.  Kinda really lame, but easy.  And the resume professor is giving me a test on Friday, too.  That’s all, except I’ll get homework in physics tomorrow.

I’m irritated that I’m in 3 upper level computer science classes, we’re in week 5, or something, and I’ve written no code.  Not a single line.  You know what I like about computer science?  Code.  You know how I learn computer science?  By coding.  /rolls eyes

On another note, there may or may not be a person I know who has Fable 2 early.  I’ve spent a few hours watching.  Looks basically like Fable… only better?  It’s fairly fun to watch and make jokes and stuff.

Oh, and like it says on Lauren’s blog, we watched Wayne’s World for free today.  Kinda like back in the Linfield days.  I got the 3 noobs, Yusuke, Elisabeth, and Lauren, to come see it, and then there was Sidney and I as old fans.  It was a big hit.  I re-love that movie.  Maybe they liked it enough they’ll rent the sequel?  Maybe?

Also on Lauren’s blog, everyone’s leaving this weekend like they did weekend before last.  This time they’re going to Sidney‘s.  It’s her mom’s birthday.  It’s great that I’ve got all my work this week so this weekend when I have all this free time I won’t have anything to do.  More D&D delay.  These Central people only managed to stay focused for 2 hours this weekend.  They had a bit of a brutal fight, and poor Yusuke was unconscious basically the whole time.  Gotta go through with them and get them better acquainted with their powers to speed up combat.  Other than that Elisabeth needs to stop pouting about her bad rolls, and we need to get them far enough to have some better role playing hooks.  /shrug

Also I voted.  Thanks to Lauren‘s stamp.

K.  Well, I’m spent.

It’s good to have a few friends that don’t drink

My ear buds are dead, so I’ve been walking around campus with my giant headphones.  It’s pretty cool.  They double as earmuffs.  They fit underneath my giant hood of the sweatshirt I’m always wearing, too.  The cord is so long it goes from my pocket, to my shins, to my head.

Took a physics test yesterday.  First one, so I dunno how I did.  I’m not concerned, though.  I did well on the practice test and I am just taking the class for fun, so I think I’m getting what I came for.

A bunch of us went to play badmitton in the gym yesterday.  At one point Hiro and I played against Dan and Luke in a match where we actually kept score.  I wasn’t paying close attention but I was told at one point that the score was 10-2 them and we were playing match point.  When we won that volley I told Dan and Luke they better watch out, we were gonna come from behind.  Guess how that ended.  That’s right, 9 unanswered points for Hiro and I.  Go team short and apathetic!

Today in class Paul stole someone’s sunglasses, and was still wearing his beanie and was just sitting in the middle of the lecture with that look going.  So Liam has a beany and sunglasses and copies him.  And then like 3 more of us sitting in the vacinity put our hoods way up and I had my hair in my face.  The professor was writing a bunch of stuff on the board while this was going on and he turned around and was all like, “Jesus!  What is this uni-bomber class?”  And we were all sitting in the second row so the whole first row had no idea what was going on.  It was pretty funny.

I jogged a 7 minute 50 second mile today.  That’s according to Elisabeth, I wasn’t timing.  I was surprised at the speed since I can’t remember the last time I officially ran a mile, unless that’s what Donny and I did that one time last year.  Gonna try and keep doing it fairly frequently and see if I can improve.

Tomorrow I might go grocery shopping for lentil stew fixings which I might make sometime soonish.  After this shopping we’re gonna play D&D again, finally.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day.
