Newsweek

I’m ashamed to admit that I read something actually printed on paper. As such I can’t just link you all to the article. However, in the most recent Newsweek magazine there is in article called The Politics of Playtime. It’s only one page long so you should be able to read it in a store or something if you aren’t subscribed. Man it’s funny. The gist of it is that conservative mothers are boycotting American Girl Dolls because the company supports Girls Inc. which supports Roe v. Wade and homosexuals. haha. Man… just read it.

Tales of woe

Ok, well, my registration didn’t work. One class I knew the computer wouldn’t let me do because I was having prereqs waved, so I had that all taken care of. Another little class I decided to take that day I didn’t know required special permission from the prof to take, but I got that so that’s no big deal. The main problem is that in order to take the second semester of physics I have to be taking or have taken Calc II. Now, I haven’t done this. I would have done it forever ago if someone had told me this. I asked some up and up peoples too who should know. I took AP calculus in high school, which means I should have skipped Calc I here, which I took freshman year. Given this, I would have taken Calc II then, and none of this would be a problem. As it is I’ve decided not to take second semester physics next semester, but Calc II. I’ll finish physics next year. Of course, this ruins the continuity of it all, and I don’t get to have a class with a friend anymore. My only one so far, cept that one Jan Term w/ 8. So that sux0rs.

My schedule now is Cognitive Neuroscience (4 credits, got prereqs waved, want to take it so that I know if I should study neuroscience in grad school, and give me a more specific idea of what to study if I do) Calc II (yeah, you all heard about this), Comp Sci semester 2 (I dun remember what it’s technically called, I am doing well at this first semester of Comp Sci, so I might get a minor, if I want to take any classes above intro I have to take this class next semester though) and Research Methods (This is a special thing where I read a book that a profesor is reading and we talk about it a couple times a week. Going to read something about neurophysiology, more grad school prep, and I’ll learn a ton). Excluding that Research Methods, cause it’s only 1 credit and hardly counts, I’m not taking any Bio. I will also have no labs. Every semester till now I’ve had at least 2 labs and at least one bio class. Weirdness.

Also there is my physics test. I screwed up a problem, and since there were only 5 questions, I’ll prolly get like a C or something for it. I’m mad about it cause I know the stuff, I just always forget stuff at 8 in the morning. What are they thinking? You know there are studies that say an extra hour of sleep for high schoolers raises the average grade by a whole letter? How about that? Maybe the country wouldn’t be so dumb if you’d just let us sleep!

Oh yeah, and the vert lab today didn’t work.

Ok, but seeing the silver lining, as I so often do, I have some stuff to say. Next semester I won’t have to wake up early and it should be a pretty easy workload, which will give me the time to really focus on the neuro stuff, and figure out what I’m interested in. When I take physics next, it will be the second semester of my senior year, which means the grades won’t matter for anything, so it will be ok if I screw myself then. My indepedent research seems to be moving quickly and correctly forward. I’m also ahead on my vert phys read. Also, two of my classes are cancelled tomorrow, so I’ll be done with class at 10. 🙂

I haven’t eaten today. 😛 That’s not part of the silver lining. I’ll probably eat soon though, that’s kinda silver lining.

8’s been having a rough scheduling time too. She’s trying to drop a class, but it’s kinda back firing I think. Silly theater people. I’ll let her give details if she wants.

Anyway, the point is we’ve both been busy and so that’s why there have been not many updates.

So hungry. My vert lab TA, I think he’s dating this girl Tara. Yeah, he definately is, I just looked them up on facebook. He’s totally winning on that arrangement, unless she has some horribly disfiguring personality traits I don’t know about. They look like siblings kinda.

Anyway, it’s good to ramble. I wish my PS2 pictures would work. I’ll try again. There, cool huh.

So maybe "fixed it" was a bit of an overstatement

Not really though. It was working. Just Katamari was being difficult, and my little sweetheart wanted to play Katamari so if it didn’t work, it wasn’t fixed. So I was back inside operating and I apparently pulled something out of it’s socket and in the way the case was configured couldn’t get it back in. So I just took everything apart and then put it back together again. It works!

I’m thinking about not taking biology next semester. It would be a first. I’d be replacing Genetics w/ Cognitive Neurophysiology. Ya know, cause Cognitive Neurophysiology has nothing to do with biology. It doesn’t count towards a bio major though. I could do it though. I’d just have to take two bio classes some semester senior year. I think it would be good.

Stupid pictures aren’t working. I’ve been trying for 2 hours. Screw you internets. 😛

Productive weekend

Ok, so I haven’t done any homework at all this weekend so far… except that 3 hours of research and a bit of reading on Friday, but that doesn’t really count. Anyway, I did get invited to a surprise birthday party and such. That was cool. We didn’t get much warning though, so I didn’t have time to get a present. 🙁 I woulda gotten her D&D stuff. She’s 20.

I also took apart my (or maybe Keston’s, there’s some debate on that) PS2 and I’m pretty sure fixed it. It wasn’t reading the disk. It hasn’t been officially tested since I put it back together, but I’m confident. Guess I better get to the homework part of productivity now. I dun have much pressing homework to do this weekend though, because of all the tests last week. 🙂

Lets see if I can think of something to blog about

I have a test in physics tomorrow. Hopefully I dun screw up. I’d like to get an A, cause it’s pretty easy class wise, the problem is she’s a weird grader, and there’s not all that much in the way of assignments with which to prove my knowledge. Oh well.

I have to come down to the library again tomorrow for Computer Science. We’re doing that ethics paper. I did my little assignment already, and finished my javascript. So I have no real pressing homework in the class, but two long term things I could be doing.

It has been raining. 8 and I had to go back to her appartment to get something she forgot on the way to work just a bit ago. I said, “I bet now when it gets to be when we would have just made it to the library it’s going to start pooring rain.” And it did. She says I jinx things. I say I’m just inteligent beyond all reckoning.

Nov. 5th, that’s Saturday, is international D&D day. Celebrating 31 years of roleplaying. A staple in the pen and paper world, D&D is also inspiration for many of the video RPGs of past and present. All bow to D&D. The LRPC is going to be showing Gamers to celebrate. That is if I can get the copy from the guy who owns it, he’s hard to get a hold of. 😛

My external hard drive is full. Now I can’t back up everything I have anymore. /sad

Trying to figure out my schedule. I recently asked and the prof of cognitive neuroscience said she’d wave the prereq’s for me if I want to take it. Problem is I’d be taking 19 credits then under the current set up, all of them semi work intensive at least. Genetics I think my be pretty rough. 😛 I asked my advisor for advice. 😛 I might just audit the class. Registration is early next week sometime.

I’m going to put some new links and such on this blog once I get some time. Probably like Thanksgiving break or something.

Studies

A recent study showed that Americans spend an average of 40 minutes a week deleting spam. I did some calculations and for someone who makes $30k a year, that’s $500 worth of time.

In other news I stabbed my finger a bunch of times. Turns out eating increases insulin levels. I had the high protein diet. I ate baked beans and summer sausage and skim milk. 😛 I ate a bunch of food in 12 minutes. 😛 It made my tummy hurt. Only for a bit though, cause I’m not a wuss.

Research

I’m doing research for an ethics paper in my computer science class. Apparently there is an organization that oversees programs and decides what can be called a Computer Science Major and what can’t. To be called a Computer Science Major the program much teach ethics of computer use so it doesn’t produce a bunch of hackers… supposedly. Anyway, I check out this book and noticed something. It was published in 1985, it was checked out in 1988, 1993, and by me. Kinda weird to think. How many books have been in the library for 20 years and never checked out?
