I’ve noticed that a great number of these brick buildings are marred with the plastic emblem of a security company, signifying the buildings protection, and the owner’s fear. I find it odd that such fear should be so prevalent, even in relatively small communities. Hence, I note it here.
I think maybe I’ll switch to 24 hour time. Although I guess it is slower in a lot of cases… never mind then.
I think Mozart must have been born 2 or 3 years after the dictionary was published. I really need to read the history of everything.
I like the old graveyards they have around here.
We went to Lichfield today for a bit. There was an open air market where a few of us bought books. I bought 3, Darwin’s, a biography of Louis Pasteur, and a collection of Celtic tales. All good stuff I think. £1.50.
Went to the big cathedral in Lichfield. It was quite large and impressive. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was quiet, as Mike pointed out. I also got to see Erasmus Darwin’s (Charles’s grandfather) grave.
Then went to Johnson’s birthplace and looked around. Learned a few more specifics about him, especially concerning his early years.
More interesting than his birthplace to me was reading some of his essays. I read the assigned Rambler one and a few extra from Idler. I’ll probably have to reread them, good stuff. Quote worthy, but I don’t have it w/ me, so I’ll not transcribe it at the moment.
Floccinaucinihilipilification
Had a wandering out in Burton near where we’re spending the night. I wandered far and alone until I found the game store. I didn’t know where it was, but I was drawn by some force right to the heart of nerdom. It was very stimulating. I only stayed for a few minutes because I had to be back at the bus and we pretty lost. I bought a set of dice for Mike, although I’ll take them if he doesn’t want them. I made it back to the bus in time. I was last back though because everyone else has no adventuring spirit.
